So the Solaris sneekpeak has me pretty excited. 1v1 should be pretty fun, and I've got hopes for the whole sponsor system as well.

So what builds are you guys thinking of bringing into the arena? Personally I'm hoping that some unorthodox builds get some limelight Posted Image

(Yes it's true that Solaris will probably devolve into meta builds eventually, but lets try and have some fun here)

I realized this the moment they added rocket launchers and mentioned Solaris. The one saving grace is that they do have a minimum range, but I think they are going to be spam added to a lot of builds for free extra DPS. I expect to see some really ridiculous builds. You can do a lot when you have double coolshots and don't need more than 1 ton of ammo.

I think gauss rifles will suffer, that charge mechanic will only be a hindrance in a quick and dirty duel. SRM bombers will probably be powerful along with lots of UAC dakka builds. RAC's might come into play more, put a dual or triple build in and you get a flash bang chainsaw for your opponent. Basically it's going to come down to maximum burst damage as quickly as possible, most matches will be over in less than a minute. Maybe longer for lights moving at high speed due to more spread damage and missed shots, though SSRM's might be the meta there. I actually think laser vomit might suffer (especially heavy lasers), just due to it delivering damage over time versus front loaded damage options, though pulse laser builds could be strong. Rockets will be interesting, get a mech with a large number of missile hardpoints and you could decide the match with one shot if you time it right.

As I stated in another thread, my only fear is if PGI starts balancing weapons based off Solaris for the entire game. That could be a huge nerf bat incoming.

theyre going to have to change ghost heat limits and weapon group linkages to make solaris even remotely balanced

Implementing something like energy draw is a MUST for solaris. Its odd nothing was announced.

what choice do they have?

1v1 wont be fun at all if they leave weapon balance like it is now.

theyre going to have to massively nerf how many weapons you can alphastrike at one time.

Is there any tonnage limit? because i really didnt care to watch announcement.

If not then scorch, if 50 tons then pakhet.

very surprising i know, but then question was about goto mechs not experimentation and "fun" builds.

funnily enough i expect quite **** brawling loadouts to work best there just like they work best in scouting.

If they balance by it then laservomit will need a buff along with dakka and gaussvomit on top of general increase in firepower because **** me it takes years to kill a mech 1v1.

nope.

youd think theyd have light, medium, heavy, and assault divisions.

but for some reason they think its fair to make light pilots fight assaults?

the mechs are divided into 7 divisions based on how good or bad they are though.

its going to take 30 seconds to kill a mech in 1v1 if they do nothing. thats worse IMO.

Even MW4 split up Solaris into weight divisions, at least until you got to the championship rounds (where it was anything-goes).

At what point during MechCon did they say that was going to happen? Mechs are being sorted into 7 'Divisions,' and while they did say they wont strictly be done by weight, they never said Locusts would be taking on Annihilators.

Mechs are being assigned a tier ranking. As I understand it, you choose a mech and then you get matched with someone driving the same tier of mech. It sounds like tiers are being determined based on the perception of how good the mech is.

I'll probably have at least 7 go-to mechs, one per tier.

The tier rating makes it a tough decision. I have lots of "bad" 'mechs I feel relatively comfortable in. Might be looking at Wolverines, Quickdraws, Vindicators, etc.

I do hope that the tiers are split up enough that most lights don't end up with assaults still. I'd rather fight other assaults and maybe higher-end heavy mechs if I take an assault, tbh

well im not exactly sure how theyre going to do it

but something like this would make sense to me:

lights = division 1-4
mediums = division 2-5
heavies = division 3-6
assaults = division 4-7

each weight class would be divided upto into four tiers based on how good or bad they are.

so the only division where youd have a light vs assault is division 4 (the best light vs the worst assault)

Easily my Orion IIC. I'll fight anything that's apparently on the same "Tier" as my onion.

Its mwo, tbh assaults will have hard time beating lights...either blowing them up in first 2 salvos or losing unable to lay hand on good pilots.

30 seconds is eternity, thats 5-6 complete salvos. 250-350 damage despite pinpoint accuracy.

Even in mw4 it took me less than 20s to down an assault mech but then i was peppering them with 2hppc 2uac20 direwhale still taking sidetorso due to imprecision.
